Struggling economy means more opportunities for tourists

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Cutbacks in the business community could lead to better opportunities for tourists.

Helijet is now offering sightseeing tours around Vancouver.

The Longranger helicopters are usually reserved for charter flights, which are smaller than the ones used for the regular trips to Victoria. But Rick Hill with Helijet says a slow economy has opened up these little five seaters for sightseers.

“We’ve just really basically organized it better and put in specific times. So we’ve actually scheduled 12 tours a day and within that, we also have lots of time for people who want something specific that’s a little different,” explains Hill.

He adds the economy has played a big role in this decision.

“I would say it’s challenging. We’d all like to see the economy pick up from where it is today. But, in general, tourism seems to be relatively solid still in our city. If it’s priced right, then you have a pretty good shot at being successful with it.”

The tours last for 10, 20 or 30 minutes and take you around Vancouver and North Shore mountains.

Tickets start at $99 per person.
