Terry Dunfield does in old Whitecaps FC mates at the death

TORONTO, ON (NEWS1130) – Vancouverite Terry Dunfield burned his old team with a goal just before the final whistle as TFC edged Vancouver 3-2. The Caps’ Darren Mattocks had tied the game just a couple minutes earlier.

The rookie striker’s second goal of the match was an amazing header early in second half stoppage time, as the Jamaican soared high above the out-stretched fist of TFC goalie Milos Kocic. Jordan Harvey supplied a lovely cross from about 35 yards from the left wing.

Mattocks had opened the scoring in the 50th minute on a right-footed-shot on a tight angle on the right hand side of the Toronto goal, which he slotted home into the bottom left hand corner. Newcomer Barry Robson had the assist.

The home side battled back with goals by Luis Silva in the 68th minute and then former German International Torsten Frings gave TFC the lead four minutes later.

Dunfield’s winning goal was also scored on a header.

Vancouver finishes their five-game road trip in Chicago on Saturday.

Earlier, Vancouver sold popular midfielder Davide Chiumiento to FC Zurich of the Swiss Super League.

In 16 appearances for Whitecaps FC this season, the 27-year-old had five assists. Last year Chiumiento had a pair of goals and nine assists in 26 games.

The Swiss-born Chiumiento said he is happy to return home to be closer to his family but loved playing in Vancouver.
