IHIT to handle in-custody death at pre-trial centre

PORT COQUITLAM (NEWS1130) – The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has been called in to look into the death of a man at the North Fraser Pre-Trial Centre in Port Coquitlam.

Corporal Adam MacIntosh tells News1130 their involvement isn’t out of the ordinary.  “Any in-custody death does require a higher level of investigation as well as to find out what exactly happened.”

The cause of the man’s death is not being released at this time.  “The investigation could lead to being a homicide; it could lead to something different.  At this point, it’s solely an in-custody death that we’re investigating.”

This past Sunday, 44-year-old David William Brodrick of Vancouver fell ill but despite efforts of paramedics he died at the facility.

BC Corrections takes the death of an inmate in-custody very seriously and we will be conducting a Critical Incident Review to examine the circumstances of this death,” says Marnie Mayhew with BC Corrections.
