VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The Vancouver Park Board is taking a look at prices paid at community centres by people with disabilities.
The Board is considering discounts similar to those offered to seniors and children.
Jill Weiss with Vancouver’s Persons with Disabilities Advisory Committee says prices are acting as barriers.
“The reality is that people with disabilities have the lowest incomes of any group in Canada, and so that’s a group that for sure should be having a discount rate, otherwise you can’t afford to go,” explains Weiss.
Park Board staff will look in to options to reduce financial barriers to accessibility.
