Plenty to do if you’re staying in town this long weekend

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – If you’re not taking to the open road this long weekend, don’t despair! There are plenty of things to see and do close to home.

Pride Week continues with a big bash in the West End tonight.

The Davie Street Dance Party will see a section of the street closed off to traffic and open to DJs and revellers. The event is free, but you have to pay to get into the beer gardens.

It’s a warm-up to Sunday’s Pride Parade, which will see hundreds of thousands line the streets for Vancouver’s premier outdoor party.

Tomorrow, Vancouver’s century-old Japanese community celebrates with the annual Powell Street Festival in Oppenheimer Park on the Downtown Eastside.

Tomorrow night will see the third and final night of fireworks in English Bay, as Team Italy lights up the sky for the finale of the Celebration of Light. That starts at 10 p.m. sharp. Police will be out in full force and recommend you leave any booze and bad attitudes at home.

In honour of BC Day, Playland gave away free rides on its iconic Wooden Roller Coaster earlier this morning. Don’t forget, News1130 will be broadcasting live from the PNE when the Fair kicks off later this month.
