Insect expert helps with N. Vancouver homicide investigation

NORTH VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – An entomologist is among the experts helping the Mounties with a homicide investigation in North Vancouver.
A badly decomposed body was found Saturday near a foot path between Belle Isle Place and Curling Rd.
Police hope the insect expert can tell investigators when the victim died.
“In some cases they can help us determine a bit of a timeline as to how long the remains have been there,” says Sgt. Jennifer Pound with the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team.
It’s not known if the victim is a man or a woman.
“There is going to have to be a lot of testing done because of the state of decomposition,” adds Pound.
The BC Coroner and the IHIT are assisting with the case.
The cause of death is also a mystery but police have found evidence of foul play.
“It appeared as though there was attempts to conceal the body,” she says.
Police expect to be on scene until at least tomorrow. Officers have been spending the day talking to people who live in the area and gathering evidence at the crime scene.
The gravel foot path is not expected to re-open to the public until tomorrow.
