Man walks over 1,000 km to help teens at risk

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Joe Roberts–aka the “Skidrow CEO”–walked from Calgary to Vancouver to raise money for teens at risk and homeless people.

Roberts went from living on the streets of Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside to becoming a successful business man and activist.

Today he arrived at the same place that helped him overcome addiction: The Salvation Army Harbour Light.

Lauren Chan with the organization says Roberts hopes to fund programs that help homelessness.

“He was able to share his story with clients who are currently going through their own battles and treatment at Harbour Light,” she says. “And his story is nothing but inspiring.”

Roberts left Calgary on July 1. He stopped in Abbotsford on August 20, and Langley on August 21.

The trek was in preparation for Roberts’ walk across Canada next year.
