Two arson attacks in Stanley Park overnight

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Police are looking for an arsonist after two more fires in Stanley Park.

The first one happened at around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday at Malkin Bowl. A dumpster was set on fire. There was only minor damage to a fence.

Less than an hour later, another dumpster was lit on fire at Brockton Oval. The flames burned a hole in the roof of the concession stand. The awning was scorched. The damage is pegged at about $200,000.

Peter saw the smoke as it wafted over Coal Harbour. “[There was a] lot of smoke. A lot of smoke. I thought it was fog!”

Dave runs in the park twice a week. “Brockton Oval is an institution. I don’t know why anybody would so something so stupid.”

Investigators say both fires were deliberately set. No one was hurt.

Officers are going through the park, looking for anyone who may have set the fire.

There have been several arsons in the park this year, however police don’t think these latest ones are linked to the one back in June that destroyed the station at the popular miniature train attraction.
