Transit Police tighten security along entire transit system

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – You’ll notice a lot more Transit Police along the entire SkyTrain system after an explosive device was discovered between Scott Road and Gateway station Friday afternoon.

At this time, Transit Police have not made an arrest.

“Who was responsible…I can tell you at this point we have no suspects. We still don’t know how that device got on the track in Surrey,” explains Anne Drennan with the Transit Police. “It is possible that it could’ve been thrown up there and it would have been quite a toss.”

Drennan says the suspicious package would’ve needed to have been manually ignited for it to go off. And if that was the case, it would have exploded upward from the guide-way, not affecting vehicles or people below.

“This is one of those random acts that there’s very little you can do to control, in particular, because we don’t know how the device got up there,” she adds.

Transit Police also found suspicious packages at three other SkyTrain locations, however all were confirmed to be non-explosive.
