More families giving charity donations as gifts

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Many people try to set aside a few bucks for charity over the holidays, but have you thought about giving it as a gift?
Some families are now making it a part of their Christmas traditions.
Owen Charters with CanadaHelps says many parents and grandparents pick up cards for their kids.
“Now they have to think about, there are others that less fortunate than they are. What’s a charity and how does this work? How do you chose one? And how are you going to spend this money, and what happens to the money once it goes to the charity?”
He says the purchaser gets the tax receipt and the recipient can choose from hundreds of organizations in need.
