Rachel Pernosky remembered as ‘silly, funny’ young woman

MISSION (NEWS1130) – At least 300 people braved a chilly evening to gather in a Mission park to say goodbye to Rachel Pernosky.

She’s the teen mom that went missing last weekend, and whose body was found down a steep embankment in Chilliwack on Tuesday.

The 18-year-old was remembered at a candlelight vigil for her perky and outgoing personality.

“Rachel was a smiling, sweet girl. She was always happy. She was one of those people who made you feel like her best friend. She’d make you smile,” said one friend.

“She was a lot of fun. She was always happy. She was free-spirited, that’s for sure. She didn’t hold back with anything. She made friends very easily,” said another friend.

The sadness in the crowd was mixed with anger.

“I’m upset. I helped looked for her. I want to find out what happened. I want to know what creep did this. It’s shocking,” said Pernosky’s former soccer coach, Brad Flesher.

The vigil also drew old school mates and even members of Mission Search and Rescue who helped look  for Pernosky earlier this week.

Among the flowers and candles inside the park gazebo was a picture of Pernosky and her infant son, Marco, who is a year old. Friends say Pernsoky named him Marco after a young Mission man who died in a tubing accident in Osoyoos two years ago.

Police have not made any arrests in the case.
