Hundreds complain about Vancouver parking officers

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – They’re the civil servants many drivers love to hate.

Hundreds have called the City of Vancouver‘s 311 line to sound off about parking enforcement officers, according to documents obtained by the Province newspaper.

Chelsea Hobbis with our sister station SONiC was one of them.

The 24-year-old was sideswiped by a bylaw officer in Downtown Vancouver last year who then laughed at her when she burst into tears!

“And I got even more angry at that point.  I was like, ‘Are you laughing at me right now?’ as I was crying and she was just like, ‘Yeah, you need to grow up,'” she describes.

Hobbis says she was distraught as it was her first time being involved in a crash. “So, I called my dad and I was like, ‘the meter maid’s laughing at me and she just hit me’ and then after that I called the City of Vancouver and complained.”

Then there’s the mom who described paying for a meter by phone while stopping to breast-feed her child in the car.

Her time ran out and she paid again minutes later, but was ticketed anyway.

Other complaints detail everything from outrageously unjust tickets, swearing and threats, and even racist comments.
