BCCLA wants to talk to people filmed without consent

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – If you’ve made a cameo on a TV show starring border guards, but aren’t comfortable with it, a civil liberties group wants to hear from you.
Advocates continue to target the series that first gained attention after a raid on illegal migrants. The people behind the show ‘Border Security’ were eventually convinced to leave out the footage from that incident.
But Josh Paterson of the BC Civil Liberties Association doesn’t like how Canada Border Services Agency is handling consent for its episodes.
“CBSA cannot assume that people consent to being filmed for television just because they cross the border,” he argues.
He adds they want to hear from travellers who feel their privacy rights have been violated. “We will help them to file a complaint to the federal privacy commissioner.”
The Association has also created some forms to help people refuse permission to be filmed.
