NEWARK, NJ (NEWS1130) – After the Vancouver Canucks traded goalie Cory Schneider to New Jersey for the ninth pick, Vancouver selected centre Bo Horvat from the London Knights. They also took forward Hunter Shinkaruk with the 24th pick.

Horvat was the MVP of the OHL playoffs for the Knights who won the league championship. He had 16 goals in 21 games. His final goal in the OHL final came with .1 seconds left in Game 7, as London edged Barrie 3-2.

Shinkaruk fell a bit in the first round when Vancouver selected the quick skating sniper from Medicine Hat . The Tigers captain had 37 goals and 49 assists last season. He scored 49 goals in the 2011-2012 season.

The club’s next pick came in the third round, as Vancouver took centre Cole Cassels from Oshawa. He is the son of former Canucks centre Andrew Cassels.

The rest of the picks were defencemen.

They stayed with NHL bloodlines, taking the brother of Norris Trophy winning defenceman PK Subban of Montreal with the 115th selection in the fourth round. Jordan Subban is  5′ 9′, 175 pounds and plays with Belleville of the OHL.

Vancouver went overseas for the only time in the fifth round, selecting Anton Cederholm of Sweden who is 6′ 2′, 209 pounds.

Mike Williamson is the same height, but 22 pounds lighter. He played for Spruce Grove in the Alberta Junior Hockey League and was chosen in the sixth round, 175th overall.

The Canucks final pick in the seventh and final round was Miles Liberati, who was the 205th pick. The Pittsburgh native is a teammate of Horvat’s with London.
