Locavore movement continues to gain strength

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – “Think global, buy local.” It seems more of us are taking that slogan to heart, at least according to the third annual BMO Food Survey released this morning.

Steve Saccomano with BMO says are there are a few reasons for that.  “Canadians prefer their local foods because it tastes better and it’s fresher,” he explains.  “They love to support their local economy and their local farmers and they understand that it creates the local jobs.”

The love for local extends to right here in Beautiful British Columbia.

“The people in BC actually, the survey indicates, that they love their fruits and vegetables, just as much as the people in Alberta love their beef and the residents in Atlantic Canada love their fish.”

Eighty-eight per cent of those asked say they buy local because they feel it’s better for the environment, while 71 per cent say it’s less expensive.
