VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It’s a video game extravaganza in Vancouver.
Over 100 gamers will be gathering in person and virtually for a 48-hour game jam at the Centre for Digital Media campus.
Professor of software engineering and game design Kimberly Voll says they’re highlighting the lack of strong female characters in video games.
“Well, the problem with pre-existing games right now in a lot of cases, is that they tend to be hyper-sexualized or one-sided representations. They’re not really representative of the wealth of female characters and people in general.”
“What we are really trying to do is increase awareness and get people to a point where they question, maybe the subtle ways we each contribute to sexism,” she adds.
Gamers will take part in creating a game with a strong female character during the two-day event.
It runs until tomorrow at 4 p.m.
