Crews searching for missing plane

KAMLOOPS, B.C. – Search-and-rescue officials are in an area near Kamloops after a young pilot on a solo flight aboard a Cessna 172 failed to return as expected.

The Mounties say the plane left the airport in Kamloops at about 10:30 a.m. but hasn’t been seen since.

David Cruz of TylAir Aviation, a Kamloops-based flight school, says the pilot is an experienced student with more than 100 hours of flying time.”It is very concerning because typically, students are not allowed to divert from flight instructions or requirements to return at a certain time.”

“When he did not return at the appropriate time that was required, the company within 15 minutes dispatched two planes to go search for him and within another 15 minutes contacted search and rescue to go find him,” he adds.

The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre has dispatched a Buffalo search-and-rescue plane and a Cormorant helicopter to help look for the missing aircraft northwest of Kamloops Lake.

Few other details have been released.
