Tips on managing frustrating family during holidays

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Christmas is a time to re-connect with family, even with those relatives you don’t particularly like.

News1130 is learning how to be polite and get through Christmas dinner.

We all have those people that get under our skin, perhaps you’re already dwelling on the fact that you mother-in-law is going to criticize the state of your home, or maybe you have your very own annoying cousin Eddie to contend with.

Etiquette expert Carey McBeth has this advice.

“We’ve all been there, just remember that it is family. Take that extra breath, engage in conversation with someone else, walk away from a negative conversation, but really just try to be happy.”

She says it is important to remember that often we are thrown together with family that we love but may not always like.

She is urging you to put your differences aside for the night.

“Really just watch what you say and how much you drink, that is a big one too.”
