NANAIMO (NEWS1130) – Organizers on the Sunshine Coast are hoping for a large turnout today at a series of protests against cuts to BC Ferries.
The demonstrations will be held in seven different locations.
Protests are also planned at the ferry dock on Gabriola Island, near Nanaimo, as people voice their anger towards cuts to seniors discounts and more fare increases.
The crown corporation believes this round of cuts will save nearly $19-million by 2016.
Yesterday, fares were increased by 3.5 per cent. The next jump in price will be in April.
