Seattle group in Vancouver exploring possibility of NHL team

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – How would you like a hockey team in Seattle to rival the Canucks? Several dozen sports, business and political leaders are coming to Vancouver next week to talk about the NHL.

Walt Judas with Tourism Vancouver says bringing hockey to Seattle would be great. He says it would bring more money and people to both cities.

“I think they’re very interested in an NHL team. We see a lot of people from Seattle coming to Canucks games. Similarly, our respective soccer teams see fans from each of the cities… And there’s a strong contingent of Vancouverites that go to Seattle for Seahawks game, and I would venture to say it would be the same thing. There would be a natural rivalry there based on jurisdiction and access.”

The group from the Emerald City will be watching the Canucks take on the St. Louis Blues after meeting with Canucks Sports & Entertainment. Judas says they won’t just be talking about hockey — they’re also looking at the possibility teaming up to host other major sporting events on the West Coast.
