Refrozen slush makes for icy morning commute in many areas

By

LOWER MAINLAND (NEWS1130) – The snowfall warning is over, but winter is not.

Fog, freezing temperatures and a lot of leftover slush have made the commute a little challenging in parts of the Lower Mainland this morning.

The sound of spinning tires and the crunch of cars driving over slush that has refrozen make up the soundtrack of what can be a very slippery drive, depending on what area you are in.

Many roads are very slippery; we spotted someone trying to make a U-turn on Main Street in North Vancouver near the Highway 1 overpass; the car hit a very icy patch and spun out.

Some areas, including the major routes, seem to be okay. But in other areas, particularly on secondary roads and back streets, it’s like an ice rink.

Hills, such as those in the Burnaby Height area, can be tricky. It’s also easy to lose traction as you come off a salted road onto an uncleared road; many cars have been sliding as drivers tap on the brakes.

There were also problems on Highway 1 in Chilliwack earlier this morning, with some very icy conditions.

Remember, conditions can change in different areas; you’re advised to drive cautiously on your morning commute.
