Canucks promise to correct PR blunder

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The Canucks are working to put smiles back on a number of kids faces who were told they wouldn’t be going to the Heritage Classic after a PR blunder.

The kids who had their hopes dashed will now be getting tickets to a different game in the future.

Chris Brumwell with the organization says they realize there are some really disappointed kids out there.

“So we’re in the process right now of doing what we can to make it up to those teams and those kids and make sure that they stay big fans of this team.”

Brumwell says they are looking at a few different options to make it up to the kids. “For those teams that did not get a chance to come to the Heritage Classic, to bring them a couple things. One, bring them to a Canuck practice and create a special occasion or them in that way, and then look at ways to bring them to a game.”

A ticket give-away glitch saw every minor league team that entered to win free tickets to the Heritage Classic come up as winners.

Rutie Mizrahi is the Vancouver Thunderbirds’ team manager and was among those who signed up for a shot at winning tickets for the kids’ team.

She received an email telling her she would get some, followed by another apologizing that the Canucks couldn’t accommodate her.

“They said they were going to send us an email soon, telling us how to get the tickets. That was sometime in the morning. Then at night, I got an email saying actually they are very sorry, it was overwhelming, there were too many people… So they are very sorry, but they can’t get us the tickets.”

Mizrahi is torn, because she considers herself a Canucks fan, but the mistake has made her upset. “I understand they might have a glitch, but you know, those are kids. If you promise something, I think you should stand behind it.”

A number of other teams have a similar story to this one.
