Ruling on medical marijuana regulations expected this week

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A federal court judge is expected to rule later this week whether to temporarily block new medical marijuana regulations that come into effect on April 1st.

Patients who currently grow their own pot were in court yesterday, arguing that the new regulations violate their rights because they price users out of the market.

The new rules mean only a selected number of commercial producers can grow medical marijuana, and anyone who grows pot under the old system will be breaking the law.

A federal government lawyer argued in court that the new regulations are meant to protect the public, but a lawyer representing several medical pot users said they deprive the patients of their right to access important medicine.
