NORTH VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A lightning strike may be responsible for a fire at the base of Grouse Mountain.
That from District of North Vancouver Fire Chief Victor Penman.
He says it’s in the watershed area of the mountain. “Early indications are that there is certainly no threat to Grouse Mountain or any people. Crews will want to get in there and manage the fire so it doesn’t impinge on the reservoir or the water supply that supplies Metro vancouver.”
“There’s obviously a significant amount of smoke, but the best vantage point is from the air where they can actually get a visual on how progressive the fire is,” he adds.
Coastal Fire is sending an observer to look at the situation from the air.
