VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – According to a new study, Alberta is the worst province for a woman to live in Canada, and Vancouver is sitting in 13th spot.

The Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives released the results Wednesday, ranking the country’s 20 largest cities.

According to the study, Quebec City is the best place to be if you are a woman.

The study looked at five areas, including leadership, health, education, personal security and economic security.

Women can expect to earn the most in Ottawa-Gatineau.

And in Kitchener-Cambridge-Waterloo, women experience the highest stress levels.

Calgary comes in 17th, while Edmonton is ranked dead last.

Kate McInturff, senior researcher at the CCPA, said one factor is a male dominated energy sector.

She said there is a huge gap in the amount of money men make working in oil and gas, and what women take home in a female dominated service industry.

Another factor is the level of violence, including both domestic and sexual assault, women report to police in the province.

“Calgary and Edmonton do have higher than average levels of police reported violence, but it’s hard to say what the actual levels of those crimes are because so few are reported,” said McInturff.
