“Taking My Parents to Burning Man” premieres in Vancouver tonight

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A locally made documentary has been selling out screenings across the border and premieres in Vancouver tonight.
“Taking My Parents to Burning Man” was made by a couple of film makers who needed to created a final project for school.
Burning Man is a very unique annual summer event in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert “wherein attendees dedicate themselves to the spirit of community, art, self-expression, and self-reliance.”
The event’s website admits “trying to explain what Burning Man is to someone who has never been to the event is a bit like trying to explain what a particular colour looks like to someone who is blind.”
“The star of our film put together a proposal in school… to take his parents to Burning Man as a documentary. They ended up raising the money and fully taking his parents on an amazing adventure,” says Lisa Ovies, a producer of the film.
“He kind of wanted to show his parents what he’d been doing and bring them into that world… and he needed… content for a film and it seemed like a great idea. Lo and behold, we did it.”
She adds the film has already won awards across the border. “We’ve sold out pretty much every one of our screenings and had multiple requests for additional screenings all over the States… it’s been overwhelming.”
“Taking My Parents To Burning Man” will be shown at the Rio Theatre in Vancouver tonight and tomorrow.
