Now’s the time to start protecting yourself from mosquitoes

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The warmer weather means mosquitoes are coming out in full force.

If you want to avoid getting bit, a quality bug spray is needed.

Fiona Hunter teaches Biological Sciences at Brock University and says protecting yourself early is key.

“I do recommend that people use insect repellent when they go out. It’s always a good dress rehearsal, make sure you get in the habit of using insect repellent when the mosquitoes are out,” she says.

Mosquito populations usually peak in July and August but Hunter says it’s best to start good outdoor habits now.

She also recommends getting rid of standing water on your property now, as just one teaspoon of water can hatch up to 100 mosquitoes.
