LANGLEY (NEWS1130) – The man who founded the Keg restaurant chain and also brought the golden arches of McDonalds to Canada has died.

George Tidball opened the first Keg in Langley Township, where he was a well known figure.

Jordan Bateman with the Canadian Taxpayers Federation knew the 83-year-old growing up there. “George was this perfect mix of an outlaw and a gentleman, he treated everyone with respect, but he still had that horseman feel to him, that old wild west feel to him. Here in Langley we feel we lost a philanthropist, a real ambassador for our community.”

“I, like a lot of kids, grew up thinking the height of dining experience was to go to George’s Keg in the Country, eat your steak dinner and look down at the big barn where all of his horses were,” he adds.

Tidball also founded the Thunderbird Equestrian Show Park.
