DELTA (NEWS1130) – A new gadget is in the works, aimed at helping Mounties nail drivers who are on the road while high.
A local man is developing a marijuana breathalyzer.
The device is the brainchild of Kal Mahli, a retired RCMP officer in Ladner. He tells the Delta Optimist the Cannabix Breathalyzer can determine whether you’ve smoked pot in the last two hours.
Right now, police are using blood, urine, and saliva samples, which can test positive for the drug for several days. That makes it difficult to determine whether someone was actually high while they were behind the wheel.
Aside from roadside tests, Malhli says the gadget could be used in the workplace for drug testing employees.
Patents are pending, and Mahli is now working on a prototype. He wants to see it used across North America.
