California earthquake could impact wine sales

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) -The earthquake disaster in Napa could have an impact on your next glass of wine.

With all the damage to wineries in the Sonoran region of California, Miles Prodan with the BC Wine Institute says some wine lovers may be headed to the store to stock up in the short term.

“Realizing or thinking that maybe there may not be some wines from their favourite Napa winery for a little while until the impact of the earthquake is determined and [they] may rush out and buy some wine today.”

Prodan says a potential lack of Napa bottles on the shelves could mean consumers will turn to more BC wines which is great for the local industry. “It may just show that there is an opportunity to replace their favourite Napa wine with come comparable quality wine from BC.”

He adds there are many local wines that are also a lot less expensive.
