‘Christy’s World’ board game may not get response creators hope for: expert

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A couple of local teachers have created a new board game to show what they think of the labour dispute, which has kept kids out of school.

In “Christy’s World,” the objective is to unify the power of the rich by destroying public education. The game, which is being promoted on kickstarter.com, paints Premier Christy Clark as a clueless and unpopular leader.

But Lindsay Meredith, a marketing professor at SFU, says the board game may have negative impact with the public.

He says the average person in BC is tired of the bickering and the two sides should be hashing this out privately.

“Get down to the damn table and settle your issues and get on with life because we are a little tired of hearing about all this stuff. So quit fighting in public; fight in private. This game is just one more step to basically fight in public and that is not a way to resolve issues.”

“Christy’s World” is a hybrid of Monopoly and Risk. It portrays the premier as a tyrannical political leader without a conscience or a college degree.

Meredith questions whether a game will have an effect on what people think of the ongoing labour dispute.

“The idea of running games… Yes, okay, it is a way to communicate with younger people. What’s the bottom line? Is it going to convince people to change their opinion regarding this whole issue between government and the teachers? The answer is highly debatable.”

Teachers Loren Letourneau and Jean-Michel Oblette created “Christy’s World.”
