BC nurses paying close attention as teachers’ dispute drags on

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Teachers aren’t the only public sector union in the province without a contract.

President of the Nurses’ Union Gayle Duteil explains, “our contract expired March 31st of this year and we are in very early discussions with the government. Many of the people involved on the government side are very busy right now with teachers. We are still talking concepts.”

She expects things will ramp up once the teachers’ dispute is over and isn’t worried about a settlement setting a precedent. “We negotiate on behalf of nurses and the government is responsible for agreements that they make with other unions.”

The union donated a half million dollars to picketing teachers on Wednesday.
