Tensions in the teachers dispute rise at a rally in Vancouver

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Although the two sides in the teachers dispute are trying to put their differences aside, their supporters are struggling to do the same.

Things got a little ugly at a rally yesterday outside the Vancouver Art Gallery.

The situation escalated when members of the BC Parents’ Federation showed up

The parents group says they are united in looking out for the best interest of their kids.

One man with the group says they place the blame for the strike squarely on the shoulders of the BCTF. “Doesn’t show any faith in the negotiation, so far our children cannot go back to school two weeks after the regular school days.”

However, some teachers were not happy about the group appearing at the rally. A teacher voiced her displeasure with this group’s stance against their union.

“You want us to give up on your kids? That’s what you want? I am a taxpayer, I am a teacher and you want me to give up on your kids? That’s unbelievable. We need help from parents. You understand that this is about the democracy, this about the country where we want to live in, okay? We want our kids to be happy.”

In response, a woman shouted “Give your energy to them (the kids).”

Close to a thousand people turned up for the rally.
