BC coroner’s inquest into the death of Mexican woman set to begin

NEWS1130 (VANCOUVER) – A coroner’s inquest into the death of a Mexican woman who hanged herself at the Vancouver Airport while in custody of the Canada Border Services Agency is set to begin Monday.

Lucia Vega Jimenez was found hanging in a shower stall last December and died in the hospital eight days later.

Rocco Trigueros with the group Mexicans Living in Vancouver says Jimenez was happy, working as a chamber maid and preparing to get married before taking her life.

“The person who killed herself in this cell doesn’t seem to match the description of the people that she met before that.”

“Now Lucia Vega is dead. It is my understanding from what I am learning that she is not the only suicide that has happened in this cell detention. There are all these cases across Canada. What is going on there,” he adds.

Jimenez was picked up for an unpaid transit ticket when it was discovered there was a deportation order for her.
