The Canucks fall to the Coyotes

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Joe Vitale had a goal and an assist and Mike Smith made 23 saves as the Arizona Coyotes picked up a 4-2 pre-season win over the Canucks.

Derek Dorsett and Radim Vrbata provided the goals for Vancouver, which got 31 saves from Ryan Miller.

Tied 1-1 after the first period, the Coyotes struck twice in the second to put the game out of reach. Brandon McMillan made it 2-1 midway through the second when his shot was stopped by Miller and rebounded in off Vancouver defenceman Luca Sbisa. Shane Doan and David Moss extended the lead and sealed the deal for Arizona.

A lot was made before the game about Canucks head coach Willie Desjardins putting former first-round picks Bo Horvat, Hunter Shinkaruk and Nicklas Jensen together on a line. The trio made their first real impact with the score still tied 1-1 early in the second, buzzing around the Coyotes zone but failing to find the mark.

Vancouver blueliner Frank Corrado suffered an upper body injury in the second period and did not return to finish the game. Coach Willie Desjardins would only suggest Corrado will be out of the line-up for the time being and further evaluation is needed.

The Canucks will travel to Edmonton to face the Oilers on Thursday.
