Surrey is a C-grade city: report

By

SURREY (NEWS1130) – Getting to work takes an average of 10 minutes longer if you live in Surrey compared to elsewhere in BC, according to a new report from the non-profit group Surrey Cares.

People who live there give the city an overall C grade.

But it has been given a D+ rating for “Getting Around.” The survey found people in Surrey spend half an hour on their commute and 60 per cent of people who live there leave the city each day to get to work.

Anita Huberman with the group says this highlights the need for transportation improvements.

“For people to get around the city, it’s a significant challenge. People rely on their vehicles. In order for us to attract business, those transportation mechanisms are so important,” she tells us.

She believes these results show a need to invest in transportation. “When we’re talking about economic development… business attraction… we need to find an efficient way to get our human capital to their jobs.”

The survey covered a wide range of issues, including crime, standard of living, and arts and culture. A surprise finding: over 2,000 people arrive in the city each month.
