Canada to give additional $30 million for Ebola response

TORONTO (NEWS1130) – The federal government has announced it is donating an additional $30 million for the international Ebola containment effort.
The announcement brings Canada’s contribution to Ebola relief efforts to about $65 million.
Health Minister Rona Ambrose says the new funding comes in response to an appeal from UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon for additional funding.
Ban says the trust fund the UN opened to raise $1 billion for the Ebola fight only has $100,000 in it.
Ambrose says the new money from Canada will go to the World Health Organization, the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the World Food Program, UNICEF and the UN Mission for Ebola Emergency Response.
Canada earlier donated $35 million along with $2.5 million in medical protective gear and between 800 and 1,000 vials of an experimental Ebola vaccine designed by scientists at the National Microbiology Laboratory in Winnipeg.
