Tips to help your jack-o-lantern last until Halloween

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Don’t carve your pumpkin just yet if you want it to last until Halloween!

That’s just one tip from a local farmer.

Albert Anderson with Aldor Acres Farm says once the pumpkin is cut into, the gourds only last five days.

He also advises against putting your jack-o-lantern on concrete. “The heat from that, if we get some nice weather, that just goes right through them.”

“Try to put it on either soil or grass or put a good pad of cardboard down, if you’ve got to put it one concrete. [It] insulates it a little bit,” he suggests.

Anderson also says to clean your pumpkin with a bit of bleach to help keep it fresh-looking until the end of the month.
