MAPLE RIDGE (NEWS1130) – There’s been a change at the helm in Maple Ridge. Newcomer to politics Nicole Read will be the city’s new mayor.

She believes she won because her message about promoting transparent government resonated with voters. Specifically, she vows to change the way the official community plan is communicated.

“People feel that it’s really hard to track. I’d like to see us use technology a little bit better, to give people access to information related to the day-to-day decision-making inside our government,” she tells us.

Two-term mayor Ernie Daykin wound up third in the race.

Read has spent the last few years as a project manager with the Truth and Reconcilation Commission. She is 40 years old, and is the mother of two school-aged children.
