SURREY (NEWS1130) – There has been a police-involved shooting near a bingo hall in the Newton area of Surrey.

Mounties say officers opened fire on a car over the noon hour in the area of King George Boulevard and 72nd Avenue.

Inspector Bruce Stuart says the driver of the car, which had been boxed in by RCMP cruisers, tried to ram his way out.

“There’s significant damage to the police vehicles, as it was a fairly violent ramming in an attempt to escape. As a result, two members were injured and taken to hospital,” he tells us.

One of the suspects was also taken to the hospital. No one was hit by any of the shots, nor was anyone seriously hurt in the car crash.

The two men and one woman who were inside the car are now in custody.

The Independent Investigations Office has been advised of the incident.
