VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A man as been taken into custody after two people were stabbed and a man was carjacked in a crime spree that started in Surrey and ended in Vancouver this morning. He is known to police.
It all started around 9:30 a.m. at a Safeway store on 138th Street and 72nd Avenue. Police say a shoplifter stabbed two workers with a knife. The victims are expected to be okay.
The man then apparently ran off and stole a nearby car at knife-point, with the driver still inside.
RCMP Sergeant Dale Carr says the unhurt driver was finally able to get out of the car at Cambie and 18th Avenue. “[It is] uncertain at this time as our investigators are just now speaking with [the driver], whether he jumped from the vehicle or our suspect asked him to get out.”
Police chased the car into south Vancouver where he collided with a police car at Fraser and Marine Drive at about 10:30 a.m.
He was arrested a short time later at West Kent and Cambie. The Surrey RCMP Serious Crime Unit is handling the investigation.
