Canucks fall to the Senators in overtime

By

(NEWS1130) OTTAWA,ONT – Erik Karlsson scored the winning goal in overtime as the Vancouver Canucks let a point get away on Sunday night. The Senators won the game 4-3, handing Vancouver a second straight loss. Karlsson whipped a wrist shot past Eddie Lack at the 1:21 mark, ending a frustrating night for Vancouver that saw the Senators carry the play from the second period onward.

The Canucks jumped out to a quick lead in this game. Radim Vrbata opened the scoring with a beauty, patiently waiting for Craig Anderson to over committ, before sliding the puck in. Kevin Bieksa added to the lead with his second goal of the season on a seeing eye point shot. Both of Bieksa’s goals have come against Ottawa this season.

Brad Richardson took advantage of a Senators turnover and fired a shot past Anderson on a 2 on 1 to make it 3-0. It looked as though Vancouver would cruise, but the Senators began their comeback with nine minutes to go in the second period.

David Legwand broke Eddie Lack’s shutout bid with a high shot over the shoulder on a powerplay. After that, it was the Mika Zibanejad show. Zibanejad scored twice, including a wraparound attempt that banked in off of Canuck defenseman Yannick Weber. The teams were tied at 3 to begin the final period.

The Canucks were outshot 45-33 in the game.

Up next for Vancouver is a clash with PK Subban and the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday afternoon. (4:30pm, SportsNet Pacific)
