VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – If you’re looking for a way to get into the Christmas spirit, head to Van Dusen Botanical Garden. The 30th annual Festival of Lights is on now!

“[It’s a] very popular Christmas event in Vancouver,” says Emily Schultz with Van Dusen. “Last year, we attracted over 100,000 visitors throughout the four-week event.”

She says they’re celebrate their 30th anniversary with a ‘Frozen Winter Wonderland’ theme. “Visitors can find lots of blue and purple lights throughout the garden, icicles, and different winter decor. This year, we also have interactive icebergs in the lake. They’re voice-activated; people can speak into a mic to watch them light up.”

Schultz tells us they have over a million lights in the garden. “It takes 18 gardeners about a month to put them all up and finish the decorations.”

And you might want to arrive hungry; there is plenty of food on-site.

“We’ve got Sin City doughnuts and Whistler wood-fired pizza food trucks… Then our restaurant — Shaughnessy Restaurant — and Truffles Cafe will be open for dinner; we’ll also be serving mobile throughout the garden.”

“We ask people not to miss out on the gnome performance; they’re a hilarious Scandanavian gnome duo. We also have a kids shadow puppet show and photos with Santa up until Christmas Eve,” adds Schultz.

The Festival of Lights runs until January 4th.
