VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It’s bad luck rather than your unhealthy lifestyle: most cases of cancer are largely due to a random mutation you may have, according to new research.
This doesn’t mean you can simply eat whatever you want; the scientists behind the research in Science Journal warn that poor lifestyle can actually add to the bad luck factor.
Overall, they say two thirds of cancer cases are simply linked to a lack of biological luck. The other third are linked to environmental factors or defective inherited genes.
The study finds the best way to avoid cancer is through early detection.
It’s still not known why, but scientists have known for sometime that some tissue types give rise to cancer millions of times more often than others.
