Snowfall welcomed on the local mountains

By

NORTH SHORE (NEWS1130) – It’s been a white 12 hours for parts of Metro Vancouver and that includes the North Shore Mountains.

While some mountains had to rely mostly on self-produced snow to start the year, the last day has been a blessing says Emmalee Brunt with Mount Seymour.

“It is a winter wonderland. It’s been very heavily busy. Today, a lot of people arrived early. Our roads are being plowed, salted and de-iced so it’s good driving conditions up here. Its perfect conditions for beginners or people wanting to toboggan. There’s a little bit of a snow-mageddon happening right now. We’ve had 11 centimetres of snowfall accumulate overnight with more throughout the day so it’s looking great.”

But, that’s still not quite enough to have the mountain completely up and running.

“We’re still waiting on just over 20 centimetres of snow to fall for us to be able to open our Mystery lift, our Lodge lift and our Brockton lift. So hopefully the snow will accumulate and we’ll be able to open those as soon as possible but right now we’re just waiting on a little bit more snow,” she explains.

For now they’re keeping their fingers crossed. “We’re not open for night operations as of yet just because we have to wait for our Mystery Peak Express to open.”

The snow allowed Grouse Mountain to open its terrain park and the mountain is hopeful more runs will open this week.
