South Cambie neighbourhood sees new trees planted following vandalism

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – There are new trees today for a South Cambie neighbourhood that had 17 maples chopped down in the middle of the night earlier this month.

“It’s a shocking crime,” says John Coupar with The Vancouver Park Board adding they want to send a strong message that this type of vandalism won’t be tolerated.

“I mean on a personal level, I think it really affects each and every one of us because, you know, trees are living things and we are very concerned that anybody would want to do damage to them.”

“We are back in business today and I’m very pleased to be here and see this, the last tree going in right now,” he explains. “We are here to protect trees and enhance the environment.”

The $10,000 price tag covers stump removal, ground prep, tree cost and replanting.

Police are asking anybody with information to contact them.
