Seventeen Abbotsford Police members under investigation for possible misconduct

ABBOTSFORD (NEWS1130) – The Office of the Police Complaint Commissioner is looking into a total of 148 accusations of misconduct against seventeen members of the Abbotsford Police Department.

The accusations include corrupt practice, deceit, and neglect of duty.

The investigation started with the arrest of Constable Christopher Nicholson in 2013 on drug, breach of trust and obstruction of justice charges.

Deputy Police Complaint Commissioner Rollie Woods says the officers are accused of making up information to secure search warrants.

“[The accusations claim that] information in the request for the search warrant, which is sworn information to obtain…  there was information in there that was inaccurate, misleading,” he tells us.

“The concerns raised have an impact of the interplay between key institutional stakeholders within the criminal justice system which include the federal prosecution service, judicial officers and the police. Furthermore, what remains an active concern to the OPCC is the extent to which the search warrants in issue may have contributed to potentially unsafe prosecutions,” reads a statement from the office.

All 17 officers facing accusations are described by Woods as rank-and-file.

Both Abbotsford Police and the city’s mayor are asking the public to wait for all the facts to come in before judging the department.
