VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Water bottles, shampoo, food and inspirational messages, these are the kinds of things students from three local elementary schools are putting together to hand out Wednesday in the Downtown Eastside.

Students from Vancouver’s Talmud Torah, Burnaby’s Ismaili Centre and St. Augustine’s Elementary are all taking part, with Tim Horton’s providing the food.

“It feels so amazing that we are doing this because I think that if everybody can come together to do something so amazing, it can have such a big impact,” says one student.

“It’s nice to actually be getting out their and doing something,” says another. “It feels good to be giving other people things that they may not necessarily have.”

“I think doing it with the other schools makes a bigger impact. If Jews and Muslims can work together, why can’t the world. I just think that is so inspiring.”

Teacher Shoshana Burton is helping the kids put them together. “So many kids got inspired by the concept, it’s just beyond belief. We’ve had hundreds and hundreds of bags pouring into the school by kids who are so inspired by the message.

2000 care packages in all will be handed out in the Downtown Eastside.
