Sinkhole closes portion of Albert Street in Burnaby

BURNABY (NEWS1130) – A large sinkhole has developed on Albert Street in Burnaby.

The street is closed between Gamma and Delta Avenues.

Don Bradley with Metro Vancouver says the cause hasn’t been determined and an investigation is underway. “Local residents continue to have access through their laneways.”

He says it’s about 16 feet long, six feet wide, and about four feet deep.

“There has been a considerable amount of infrastructure work performed in that particular area over the past few years on a wide range of things. Again, it’s premature to speculate on the cause at this point. But the site has been secured, it’s safe, and it’s blocked off. There’s on-site security personnel, as well.”
