VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Have you had a discussion about your end of life choices?
A new report from the Canadian Medical Association looks at what needs to be done to improve palliative care.
It looks at where Canada stands now and what we will need to do as a country to meet increasing palliative care needs.
Dr. Louis Hugo Francescutti is the past president of the CMA and says this doesn’t just fall on the government or doctors, but rather society as a whole.
“Baby boomers are not going to put up with what’s being delivered right now. Baby boomers are seeing what their parents are going through and they’re saying, ‘There’s no bloody way I’m going to go through that.'”
“The 10 recommendations basically say ‘Make this a priority in your practice, get the training that’s necessary, and make sure that there’s enough resources within your community to meet the needs of your community,'” he adds.
For the last year, the CMA held townhalls around the country to come up with these recommendations.
